She began her schooling at Gaylands School with Anne, where she boarded and kept Timmy with her. George, her cousins and Timothy became the Famous Five and often spent the school holidays together having adventures and solving mysteries. The discovery of gold ingots made her family wealthy again, and they could afford a good education for George and a cook at home, Joanna. Quentin changed his mind about Timothy, and let him live in the house. She met her cousins Julian, Dick and Anne for the first time at the age of 11, when they came to stay for their summer holiday ( Five on a Treasure Island). George paid her friend Alf the fisher-boy to look after him. As he grew bigger and became naughty, barking and chewing everything, her father told her to get rid of him. As she was always boyish, local people called her Master George.Īround the age of 10, George found Timothy (Timmy) as a puppy on the moors and took him home. Her parents could not afford to send George to school, or for her to see the circus or pantomime. Fanny's family once owned a lot of land around Kirrin before having to sell it when they became poor. George is an only child, the daughter of Quentin Kirrin, a famous scientist, and Fanny Kirrin.
